Hyderabad to Ayodhya: Flight Routes & Trip Plan
Ayodhya is roughly 1,300 km from Hyderabad, so this is a fly-in trip in practice. The question is not how to get there but how to avoid spending two days travelling for one day at the temple.
Getting there
Ayodhya's Maharishi Valmiki International Airport (AYJ) is about 10 km from the temple. Direct services from Hyderabad appear and disappear with the season, so the reliable routes are:
- Fly Hyderabad → Delhi or Lucknow, then on to AYJ. Usually the best balance of price and connection.
- Fly to Lucknow (LKO) and drive in — around 140 km, roughly three hours. Frequently the cheapest option.
- Fly to Varanasi (VNS) and drive — around 200 km, four to five hours. The right choice if you want to pair Ayodhya with Varanasi.
Realistic door-to-door time: five to seven hours. Check current schedules with the airline rather than trusting a page like this — this route changes.
By train it is a long haul with most connections, and not a sensible use of your time when flights exist.
How many nights
Three nights is the right answer. Two is the floor and it will feel rushed.
- Two nights — one full day in Ayodhya. Enough for darshan and the Saryu Aarti.
- Three nights — two full days. Darshan without sprinting, the older temples, a relaxed evening at the ghats. Recommended.
- Four nights — add Varanasi or Prayagraj as a full day.
Do not plan a trip where the travel days consume your only day in the city.
What to book before you fly
- 1 Darshan slot. The Sugam Darshan pass is free, opens roughly 15 days ahead, and is booked on the Trust's own portal. We do it for our clients at no charge for the pass itself.
- 2 Hotel — where to stay in Ayodhya.
- 3 Airport transfer — pre-book. Ayodhya's airport is small and taxis are limited when several flights land together. See our taxi service.
- 4 Return flight. Do not leave this to the last day.
A three-night plan
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Fly in, transfer, settle, evening at Ram Ki Paidi. |
| Day 2 | Hanuman Garhi, Ram Mandir darshan, Saryu Aarti. |
| Day 3 | Kanak Bhawan, Dashrath Mahal, Nageshwarnath, Guptar Ghat. |
| Day 4 | Morning darshan if you want a second, then fly home. |
Our Ram Mandir VIP Darshan tour is built on exactly this shape.
Food, language and weather
Ayodhya is vegetarian and dry — no alcohol, and most temple-area restaurants are sattvic, with no onion or garlic. South Indian food is not really available; expect North Indian thalis. If that matters, choose a hotel with its own restaurant.
Telugu is not spoken on the street here. Hindi works in the market, English at hotels and with any operator, and our coordinators speak English and Hindi.
Weather is the opposite of Hyderabad's in winter. December and January mornings are genuinely cold — bring a jacket for early darshan. May and June are hot and dry; do the temple at dawn and rest through the afternoon.
Pairing it with the rest of a circuit
Hyderabad → Ayodhya works naturally as one leg of a longer pilgrimage. Varanasi is four to five hours from Ayodhya by road and Prayagraj about three, and our four-day Ayodhya, Prayagraj and Varanasi package covers the whole loop.
If you are coming from outside India and continuing on here, read the NRI and overseas pilgrim guide first — the ID and security rules differ for foreign passports and OCI cards.
