Where to Stay in Ayodhya: Areas, Prices, What to Check
Ayodhya's hotel stock has grown quickly since the Ram Mandir opened, and the quality range is wider than the price range suggests. Two rooms at the same rate can be ten minutes apart and completely different experiences.
The areas, and who each suits
Ram Path / near the temple. The obvious choice. You can walk to the temple complex and the ghats, which matters enormously on the morning of your darshan. Downsides: the most expensive rooms, the most traffic, and the most noise. Suits first-time visitors on a short trip.
Around Ayodhya Dham Junction. A step out from the centre, still walkable to the ghats, cheaper, and convenient if you are arriving or leaving by train. Suits people on a two- or three-day trip who want to keep costs down.
Deokali Bypass and NH 28. Where the newer properties are, including ours. Quieter, better parking, better value, and 10 to 15 minutes by car from the temple. Suits people travelling with their own vehicle, families, and anyone who would rather sleep well than walk out of the door into a crowd.
Dharamshalas and guest houses. Ayodhya has many, run by temple trusts and community organisations. Inexpensive, often very close to the temple, sometimes basic. Perfectly good if you want simple, and a genuine part of the pilgrimage for many people. Book by phone; few take online reservations.
What rooms cost
| Band | Per night | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹800–1,500 | Clean room, often no lift, hot water on request |
| Mid-range | ₹1,500–3,000 | Reliable hot water, AC, simple breakfast |
| Three-star and above | ₹3,000–5,000 | Proper hotel services, parking, restaurant, lift |
| Peak Diwali / Ram Navami | 1.5–2× the above | Same rooms, higher rate, book early |
What to check before you book
The photos on booking sites in Ayodhya are frequently taken at a flattering angle, and "walking distance to Ram Mandir" gets interpreted generously. Ask these four questions:
- 1 How far is the temple, in walking minutes? Not kilometres. Ask for minutes.
- 2 Is hot water available around the clock, or only at fixed hours? This is the single most common complaint.
- 3 Is there a lift? If you are travelling with elderly parents, a fourth-floor room with no lift is a serious problem.
- 4 Is there parking? If you are driving, most properties near the temple cannot offer any.
Also confirm whether the rate includes breakfast and whether the property accepts UPI.
When to book
For an ordinary week, three to four weeks ahead is plenty. For Diwali, Deepotsav or Ram Navami, book two to three months in advance. Those weeks are not just expensive — they genuinely sell out, and what remains at the last minute is far out of town.
Midweek nights are consistently cheaper than Friday and Saturday. If your dates are flexible, shift by a day.
An honest note on pricing
A room near the temple during Ram Navami can cost more than a five-star room in Lucknow on the same night. That is simple supply and demand, not a scam. If the rate feels wrong, move a kilometre out and take a car.
If you would rather not research this
We hold rooms at properties we have actually inspected, including Ramaarsh Palace on Ram Path and several on the bypass side. Our packages bundle the room with transport and darshan assistance, which usually works out cheaper than booking each piece separately — see what an Ayodhya trip costs for the numbers.
