Sugam Darshan Pass for Ram Mandir: The Complete 2026 Guide
If you have read anything about visiting Ram Mandir, you have probably seen the phrase "Sugam Darshan pass" and assumed it is a paid VIP ticket. It is not. This guide explains exactly what the pass is, how the booking works, and what you actually need on the day.
What the Sugam Darshan pass actually is
Sugam Darshan is a free, slot-based e-pass issued by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the body that manages the Ram Mandir. It gives you a designated time slot to enter through a separate queue, so instead of joining the general line and waiting several hours, you typically complete darshan in around an hour.
Two things worth being clear about, because a lot of websites get them wrong:
The pass is free. There is no ticket price. You do not pay the Trust, and no authorised agent can sell you a pass. Anyone quoting you a "pass fee" is charging you for something that costs nothing.
There is no separate "VIP darshan" category. The Trust issues general darshan and the free Sugam slot pass. You may see packages advertised as including a "VIP Darshan Pass". We would treat that claim with caution — the pass is the pass, and it is free.
How to book it: step by step
Step 1 — Go to the official portal. The only authorised online booking site is the Trust's own portal at online.srjbtkshetra.org. If you land anywhere else, close it. Several unofficial sites collect booking fees for a free pass.
Step 2 — Create or log in with your mobile number. The booking is made against a single mobile number, and that number can cover up to eight devotees in one booking.
Step 3 — Check when slots open. Booking for a given date normally opens about 15 days in advance, and slots are released at midnight. Popular dates — weekends, Ram Navami, Diwali and Deepotsav — are taken within minutes, so the practical advice is to be ready at midnight, 15 days before you travel.
Step 4 — Select your date and time slot. Pick your darshan date and choose from the available windows.
Step 5 — Add each devotee's details. You will need the name, age and ID proof details for every person in your group. The pass is issued in individual names.
Step 6 — Download and keep the e-pass. Save it to your phone and, as a precaution, print a copy. Mobile phones are not allowed inside the temple complex, so a printed copy is genuinely useful — see the section below on what you cannot carry.
What the pass does and does not give you
What it gives you: a defined entry window, a separate shorter queue, and a darshan that generally takes about an hour rather than the three to six hours reported for general darshan on busy days.
What it does not give you: it is not a private audience, not a guarantee of proximity to the deity, and not a "VIP" experience in the commercial sense. Everyone enters the same sanctum. The pass simply removes the queue.
It is also not compulsory. General darshan is available without any pass. If you have not managed to book a slot, you can still have darshan — you will just wait longer.
Practical rules that catch people out
Carry your original ID. The name on the pass must match the ID you carry. A photocopy or a photo on your phone is not always accepted at the checkpoint.
Phones and cameras are prohibited inside the complex. So are smart watches, leather items and food. There are cloakroom and locker facilities, but the queues for them can be long — travelling light is the single biggest time saver on the day. Our Ram Mandir darshan guide covers the full list of prohibited items and how to avoid the locker queue.
The pass is for a specific date and time. If your train is late or your plans change, you cannot simply walk in at a different time.
Senior citizens and wheelchair users should tell us in advance so we can factor the extra time into your itinerary. Our senior citizen yatra is built around a slower pace.
We book the pass on your behalf — at no charge for the pass
This is where we need to be straight with you, because it is where a lot of agencies are not.
The pass is free. We do not charge you for it, and we cannot. What we do is handle the booking for you:
- We watch for your date's booking window to open and secure your slot, including on dates that sell out in minutes.
- We collect each devotee's details in advance so nothing has to be sorted on arrival.
- We re-book if the slot does not come through first time.
- We tell you what ID to carry and what to leave at the hotel.
You pay for the trip and the coordinating work, never for the pass. If you would rather book it yourself, that is completely fine — the steps above are all you need.
To have us handle it, message +91 84008 08200 on WhatsApp with your travel date, the number of devotees and each person's name, age and ID type.
Darshan windows and aarti
Ram Mandir is open through the day, with a break in the afternoon, and aartis at set times — typically a morning offering, a midday bhog aarti and an evening aarti. Exact timings change through the year, so rather than quote numbers that go stale, ask us for the current timings for your dates, or check the Trust's portal.
The evening Saryu Aarti at Ram Ki Paidi is a separate event on the river and needs no pass. It is the second thing most visitors remember about Ayodhya. We can reserve a spot for you with our Saryu Ghat Aarti experience.
If you are visiting for Deepotsav or Diwali
If your trip falls around Diwali, the city operates very differently — 28 lakh diyas are lit across the Saryu ghats, lakhs of visitors arrive, and access to Ram Ki Paidi is managed with its own arrangements. Read our Deepotsav 2026 guide before you book anything, and book darshan slots and accommodation well in advance.
The mistakes to avoid
- 1 Paying anyone for the pass itself. It is free.
- 2 Booking through a site that is not online.srjbtkshetra.org. Use the Trust's portal or ask us.
- 3 Leaving the booking to the last minute. Slots open roughly 15 days ahead and popular dates go fast.
- 4 Carrying a phone into the complex. It will be refused, and the locker queue will cost you the slot you waited for.
- 5 Assuming a pass means instant entry. You still go through security, and you should arrive before your window opens.
Questions we get asked
Is the Sugam Darshan pass really free? Yes. It is issued free by the Trust. You only pay a travel agency, if you use one, for the coordination.
Can I book for my whole family? One mobile number can book for up to eight devotees, each with their own named pass.
Can I book a slot for a date more than 15 days away? Not usually. Bookings open about 15 days before the darshan date.
Do I need the pass to have darshan? No. General darshan without a pass is still available; you simply wait longer.
Can someone else book it for me? Yes, and that is exactly what we do for our clients — with their names, ages and ID details, on the official portal.
What changed in August 2026
Two changes from the Trust in August 2026 make the pass easier than older guides describe:
- 1 Pilgrims aged 70 and above no longer need any prior approval for the Sugam Darshan pass. Show an Aadhaar card and the pass is issued directly — no application, no approval wait.
- 2 The separate pass for Ram Darbar is gone. After Ram Lalla darshan in the normal queue, pilgrims move on to the first-floor Ram Darbar in the same visit, so there is no second pass to arrange.
