Bangalore to Ayodhya: Flights, Stay and Darshan Plan
Ayodhya is roughly 1,800 km from Bangalore. There is no practical way to do this trip in a weekend, and trying to is the most common mistake people from the south make. Here is how to plan it properly.
Getting there
Option one: fly to Ayodhya (AYJ) via a connection. Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is 10 km from the temple. Direct services from Bengaluru appear and disappear with the season, so the reliable route is usually one stop, often through Delhi or Lucknow. Check current schedules with the airline — this route changes.
Option two: fly to Lucknow (LKO). Typically the widest choice of flights and often the cheapest. Lucknow is about 140 km from Ayodhya, roughly 3 hours by car. Read the Lucknow to Ayodhya guide for that leg.
Option three: fly to Varanasi (VNS). Sensible if you want to combine Ayodhya with Varanasi. Around 200 km, 4 to 5 hours.
Realistic door-to-door time: 6 to 9 hours, depending on connections. That is a full day of travel each way, and it should shape your itinerary.
How many nights you need
The honest answer is three nights minimum, and two nights is the absolute floor.
- Two nights — you get one full day in Ayodhya. Enough for darshan and the Saryu Aarti if nothing goes wrong. Tight.
- Three nights — two full days. Darshan without rushing, the older temples, and a relaxed evening at the ghats. This is what we recommend.
- Four nights — adds Varanasi or Prayagraj as a day trip, or a second darshan.
Do not plan an Ayodhya trip where the arrival and departure days consume your only full day. It is a long way to come for four hours at the temple.
What to book before you fly
- 1 Your darshan slot. Slots fill during festival weeks. Without one you may queue for hours on arrival.
- 2 The hotel. See where to stay in Ayodhya. During Diwali and Ram Navami, book two to three months out.
- 3 The airport transfer. Ayodhya's airport is small and taxis are limited when several flights land together. Pre-booking matters more here than in a big city.
- 4 Your return flight. Ayodhya is not a place where you want to be figuring out a ticket home.
A three-night plan
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Fly in, transfer, settle. Evening at Ram Ki Paidi. |
| Day 2 | Hanuman Garhi, Ram Mandir darshan, Saryu Aarti. |
| Day 3 | Kanak Bhawan, Dashrath Mahal, Nageshwarnath, Guptar Ghat. |
| Day 4 | Morning darshan if you want a second, then fly home. |
That is the shape of our Ram Mandir VIP Darshan tour, and the reason it is three days rather than two.
Language and food
Hindi and Awadhi are the languages of the street. English works at hotels and with any operator you book through. Our coordinators speak English, Hindi and Kannada.
Food in Ayodhya is vegetarian and mostly North Indian. South Indian options exist near the main hotel strip but are limited. If that matters to you, choose a hotel with a restaurant rather than relying on what is nearby.
What it costs
Flights from Bengaluru are usually the largest line in the budget and vary enormously by date. For the ground costs — hotel, transport, meals, incidentals — see our breakdown of what an Ayodhya trip actually costs.
Coming from overseas
If you are flying into India first and then on to Ayodhya, read the NRI and overseas pilgrim guide — the ID and security rules differ for foreign passports and OCI cards, and it is better to know that before you reach the gate.
